DEMODICOSIS IN A PUG
Demodicosis is one of the more common diseases affecting dogs caused by Demodex canis
OBSERVATIONS:
Severe skin lesions with alopecia, itching and hyper corrugation of the skin over the face and legs.
DIAGNOSIS:
On skin scraping examination: Demodex canis(++++) could be detected.
TREATMENT:
• Ivermectin
• Ridd(amitraz)
• Petben shampoo
• Immunol syrup
• Healit ointment
RESPONSE TO TREATMENT:
Complete recovery observed in 3 months
DISCUSSION:
Aetiology is Demodex canis
Transmission is by direct and indirect means such as through fomites etc.
Clinical signs include mlocalised and generalized form.Generalized form include squamous ,popular,squamopapular,pustular and atypical forms.
TREATMENT:
• Localised form-lesions will resolve spontaneously
• If there is secondary bacterial infection-Antibiotic therapy
• Miticidal therapy
• Environmental hygiene
• Improovement of overall health of of patient
