Aquaculture and aquatic animal health - the fundamentals of health and production for the practicing veterinarian. This file contains notes authored by the highly talented Paul Hardy-Smith, Jim Greenwood and Dick Callinan. The course covered a practical overview of aquaculture and aquatic animal health specifically in the areas of finfish and crustacean intensive production systems and ornamental fish husbandry and medicine. The proceedings contain excellent notes covering an introduction to aquaculture, aquarium fish care and diseases, intensive finfish production systems, important comparative aspects of the fish versus the terrestrial animal, the detection of disease and a review of some important diseases and their significance in intensive finfish production. It also contains interesting notes on prawn aquaculture and the transition from general practice vet to fish vet. Vets thinking of becoming involved in the rapidly growing area of food production, or wanting to better serve their clients who keep ornamentals, will really enjoy this publication.
