Description

The book has been written as a reference text for students of aquaculture, hatchery managers and fishery scientists whose remit involves the management of broodstock fish and the provision of eggs and fry for grow-out farms. It is also of considerable relevance to those concerned with the conservation of wild stocks of fish and those considering exploiting new species of fish for aquaculture.
Emphasis has been placed on the more important groups of cultured finfish and includes details on the problems of broodstock management and seed production for that group, the induction of spawning, factors affecting egg and larval quality, rearing systems and conservation. In addition to this species or group approach there are more general chapters on egg and sperm quality, biotechnology and genetic manipulation, the importance of lipids and the provision of larval feeds. This is the first time that a single text has collected together all known information on broodstock management and seed production.
