This is a hardbound textbook of diagnostic imaging for veterinary students and veterinarians. This third edition is an update of the previous edition, published in 1987. Basic ultrasonographic concepts and their association with radiographic principles have been added, as well as findings of the corresponding structures. The authors designed this textbook to provide veterinary students with introductory instruction in the principles of radiology and ultrasonography and to present students and practicing veterinarians with an effective, usable guide to interpretation of diagnostic imaging procedures in dogs and cats. Generously illustrated with radiographic and ultrasonographic images, the book is also an atlas of normal and abnormal imaging findings. This book is written primarily as an introductory text for veterinary medical students, but is also a useful reference for veterinarians in small animal practice. The text material is presented in six chapters. In the first chapter, general imaging principles and concepts are described. Subsequent chapters are organized by anatomic region or structure (i.e., abdomen, thorax, bones, and joints). Within each chapter, specific topics are presented in a well-organized and logical progression. Pertinent features of normal anatomy, special imaging considerations of the particular body structure, normal radiographic and ultrasonographic appearance, and abnormal findings, both radiographic and ultrasonographic, are outlined in tandem for each topic. Abundant black-and-white plates of radiographic and ultrasonographic images accompany the text for each topic and are of exceptional quality in the clarity of the images and in their effectiveness in demonstrating the imaging characteristic described in the text.
