This international journal of laboratory animal science and welfare publishes peer-reviewed original papers on all aspects of laboratory animals in biomedical research. Commissioned review articles are also featured, together with relevant reports from working parties and expert committees. Particular emphasis is given to the inclusion of papers describing work which involves a reduction in the number of animals that need be used, which replaces animal models with in vitro alternatives, or which represents a significant refinement in methodology, leading to improvements in the welfare or well-being of the animals used. Laboratory Animals is the official journal of the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA), Gesellschaft für Versuchstierkunde (GV-SOLAS), the Israeli Laboratory Animal Forum (ILAF), the Laboratory Animal Science Association (LASA), Nederlandse Vereniging voor Proefdierkunde (NVP), Sociedad Española para las Ciencias del Animal de Laboratorio (SECAL), and Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Versuchstierkunde (SGV).
