SPLENECTOMY is commonly performed in dogs. The usual technique includes individual ligation of the short splenic branches of the splenic artery and vein, preserving the left gastroepiploic artery and the short gastric arteries. Other techniques have been described. One alternate technique involves ligation of the splenic artery, the left gastroepiploic artery, and the short gastric arteries.
