Description
It is an interactive program containing a lot of information and some illustrative videos.
This learning material has been designed to support the Basic Surgical Skills course run by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. These resources should be used before, during and after the practical skills course.
The philosophy of this course is to provide a realistic and supportive learning environment in which surgical trainees can rehearse basic technical skills. During the practical training sessions, tutors will provide guidance and feedback to the attendees. There will be a series of formative assessments during the practical course which are designed to support skills acquisition and will be similar to the assessment format used in the intercollegiate surgical training curriculum.
The course covers the following areas:
· Safety and core skills
· Minor Surgical Procedures
· Haemostasis
· Basic Procedures
· Endoscopic Surgery
Attendees will learn safe practice for a range of commonly used skills, which will require continued rehearsal and support when they return to their clinical work. The techniques and procedures covered in this course are in line with the agreed curriculum for the Basic Surgical Skills Course set out by the four surgical colleges.
