The focus on surgical procedures and critical care cases enabled the CVE additionally to enlist the speaking services of Catriona MacPhail, a rising star in soft tissue surgery, and also from Colorado State University. For several sessions Drs Lappin, Seim and MacPhail teamed together to discuss interesting 'mystery cases' that utilised the skills of more than one specialist. A wide range of topics was covered, encapsulating Mike's active research program in infectious diseases, vaccinology and gastroenterology, along with emphasis on the respiratory, urogenital and gastrointestinal systems.
Supporting these eminent North American speakers were Dr Vanessa Barrs and Professor Richard Malik, two of the best feline physicians in Australia who completed the range of body systems covered to include the endocrine system, kidneys, bones and joints. Vanessa also spoke of her research into fungal nasal cavity disease and alimentary small cell lymphoma, while Mike discussed the latest about flea and tick borne infectious diseases, and emerging infectious diseases such as tritrichomoniasis.
