Philippines Veterinary Student
Hello, I'm currently a 3rd year veterinary student about to head into my clinical year and a lot of my fellow classmates are picking up tablet computers and was wondering if anyone had an opinion on them. It seems like a good idea as you can have a lot of digital books handy and it also doubles as a note pad and PDA of sorts so I was just curious on people's opinions on the subject. Thanks.

I was recently toying with that idea as well but it is not something that I really need at the moment. I suppose it is a handy thing to have around although I still prefer books.

I might give an insight as I've had an iPad since it came out in 2010 and recently bought the New iPad. It is grat for reading books from this site and browsing the web but I still prefer reading on paper if I have the book. I Think the iPad is best suited at the moment because of one software: GoodReader. It's the single best app for reading PDF or other documents. Also the browsing experience is superior on iOS compared to Android because of the way pages fit on the screen, and I haven't had the need of Flash lately as most sites change to HTML5. I have an Android phone (Galaxy S II) and I really miss the apps I had on my old iPhone because there's no good alternative on Android. Soon however Win8 tablets will come to market (October?)and chalange the superiority of the iPad. Also reading small text (when zooming to a whole page) works only on the Retina display of the New iPad.

i ve an iPad with did software and it's helpful to show to petowners about their pets pathologies

In my opinion, I would be nice and handy to own a Tablet for reading during school. If you're a budget student like myself, you can get the Kindle Fire Tablet from Amazon (2x Kindle Fire Tablet is still cheaper than an iPad ).

Its handy to read, but just read, if you're going to study off it, the feel of a physical book is still better, unless once again, you're like me and would like to cut the expenses on books, then go ahead with a Tablet, high recommended for the budget student.

Having a tablet is a great advantage as it is very convenient to have all your ebooks, articles, etc in one place for quick access. It would've certainly made my student life easier. I can suggest the Nook Tablet, which you can root into a fully functional android tablet. It has a 7" screen and in my opinion it's large enough for a good reading experience. And for angry birds =)
