WSAVA Standards for Clinical and Histological Diagnosis of Canine and Feline Liver Diseases
WSAVA Liver Standardization Group
Review
This book proposes to provide a unified description if the currently recognised liver diseases in cats and dogs.
Until recently, no strict guidelines existed for choosing the correct clinical and histopathological term to describe specific liver diseases. This problem made it difficult to study and compare the prognosis, response to treatment and progression of these individual hepatopathies in small animals. A group of well-recognised scientists in veterinary hepato-gastroenterology, clinical pathologists and renowned clinicians from Europe, the US and Australia joined in their efforts to create such guidelines in the shape of this book and, in the process, started an initiative to approach liver disease in a more scientific way.
All chapters are nicely illustrated with pictures of the macroscopic, ultrasonographic or histopathological typical appearance of the disease processes.
In summary, this is a good and well-illustrated book, which would be of use for clinicians dealing with patients with liver disease, pathologists and those interested in diagnostic imaging.
